Glad you’re interested!

Thank you for your interest in becoming part of the Yamadori Shiba family. The best way to connect with us is through our social media, where we can begin a conversation and get to know one another. For us, placing a puppy is not simply about finding a home—it’s about building a lasting relationship. When you bring home one of our puppies, you’re also gaining our friendship, guidance, and support for the lifetime of your companion.

Because we are a small, preservation-focused kennel, we produce only a limited number of litters each year. This means there may be a waiting period before a puppy is available. However, please know that if our conversation leaves a strong impression, I will not forget you. We are dedicated to matching our puppies with families who share our love, respect, and commitment to this remarkable breed.

Puppy Placement & Policies

At Yamadori Shibas, we are deeply committed to ensuring the lifelong well-being of every puppy we bring into the world. For this reason, we do not sell commercially to pet stores, brokers, or for resale. Our puppies are placed exclusively with loving families who are seeking a true companion, and we value ongoing updates about their lives and well-being.

All of our puppies are placed on restricted AKC registration for pet homes. This means we register your Shiba Inu with the American Kennel Club, but showing in conformation or breeding is not permitted unless we have specifically approved you as a show or breeding home. This policy helps protect the integrity of the breed and ensures that only carefully chosen dogs contribute to future generations. A formal contract is part of every placement, outlining mutual commitments to the care and welfare of the dog.

We also stand by our dogs for life. Should unforeseen circumstances ever require you to rehome your Shiba, we ask that you contact us directly. Without judgment, we will gladly assist in finding the best possible outcome for your dog. Our responsibility to our puppies does not end when they leave our home—it extends throughout their entire lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the most common questions we receive from families interested in Yamadori Shibas. If you don’t see your question here, please feel free to reach out to us via social media—we’re always happy to help!

When do puppies go home?

To ensure the best start in life, our puppies remain with their mother and littermates until they are fully ready. This timeframe can vary depending on each litter’s needs but is typically between 8–12 weeks of age. This extra time allows them to develop important social skills, confidence, and independence before transitioning to their new homes.

Do you ship or deliver?

No, we do not ship our puppies. All placements are made in person, as it’s important for us to meet each family directly. In some cases, we can arrange to meet at a nearby location or even at an airport to make the transition easier, but puppies are never shipped cargo.

Do I get to choose my puppy?

Puppies are first evaluated for breeding and show potential, as these are our top priorities in preserving the breed. Once those placements are determined, the remaining puppies are available to pet homes. We will work together to find the best fit for your family and lifestyle, ensuring both you and your puppy thrive.

Shots, Microchips, Registration?

Each puppy receives their first set of vaccinations before going home and comes with a microchip for identification and safety. We also take care of the AKC registration process for you, ensuring your personal information is attached along with your puppy’s microchip number. This way, your puppy is fully documented and protected from the very start.

How are interviews done?

I keep a very small waitlist of 10 or fewer families. I don’t like making promises until I know a breeding has been confirmed, at which point I begin reaching out to my list. After an initial conversation, I typically schedule a video call meeting so we can both ask questions, get to know one another, and ensure the fit is right on both sides.
